The Difference Between Male and Female Circumcision

The truth about male circumcision and female circumcision, from the point of view of surgical procedures. Many people try to argue that male genital mutilation is less of an affront to human dignity and respect because it is more common, or because “women have it worse” without understanding what circumcision is.

Chances are good that investing 5 minutes of your time will change the way you think of circumcision for life.

I’m reblogging this because I think this argument is completely sexist in every place I’ve seen it but a few. This video represents an even handed look at genital mutilation, and correctly states that none of it should be allowed on minors without urgent medical need. I’m not trying to start a flame war, only to show that there is an even handed way to view and think about child genital mutilation.

Thanks. I agree with you assessment. While the degree to which children’s genitals should be mutilated (I’m sure my bias doesn’t show here whatsoever) is political, what is not are hard facts.

It’s been my experience that generally speaking, when mutually respectful individuals intent on honest conversation have a disagreement, it’s usually due to the mistaking of opinion for fact. Additionally, what usually distinguishes opinion from fact is the level of detail that one delves into, that lack of factual detail leaves room for general but unprovable assessments.

We might argue that a Chrysler automobile is better or worse than a Ford, but when we delve to make, model, year, engine part and quantify things, if both individuals have integrity, they can usually come to the agreement that X part is Y% more efficient, and thus, better, if efficiency were the topic of conversation. Continued delving and discussion of this kind usually will boil down to an agreement: everything is a trade off, or a personal preference based on individual values that can be understood as such.

      • Your post directly addressed the issue that I am most tired of dealing with. I personally feel that male GM is as horrid as female GM. Suffering happens for no valid reason.
